New Taipei City has rolled out the “New Taipei City Mountain Sea Forestation Plan.” Mayor Hou Yu-Ih announced the plan’s kick-off together with the New Taipei City Farmers’ Association, Taiwan Mountain Sea Angel Association, and Tse-Xin Organic Agriculture Foundation at the Wen Sun Farm in New Taipei City on March 12 (Arbor Day). Eastern Group has taken the lead in responding to the launch of the plan, as vice president Liao Shang-Wen signed a letter of intent for cooperation with the New Taipei City Farmers’ Association, witnessed by Mayor Hou Yu-Ih.
According to Mayor Hou, Arbor Day is not a one-day event. The New Taipei City Government has set the “New Taipei City Mountain Sea Forestation Plan” in motion, calling on private organizations and enterprises to pitch in. The New Taipei City Government will integrate demands and resources of various organizations so that everyone can maximize their advantages. “I am pleased and grateful that the cooperation between the New Taipei City Farmers’ Association and Eastern Group is the first to respond to this plan. The government will continue to work with various units to push for forestation from the mountains to the sea, turning New Taipei City into an ecologically livable city,” said the mayor.
According to Liao Shang-Wen, Eastern Group has long been supportive of social welfare initiatives launched by the New Taipei City Government. Therefore, the Group has taken the lead in responding to the “New Taipei City Mountain Sea Forestation Plan.” Saplings as well as a tree maintenance fund will be provided, with plans to plant 200 arbor saplings in the Wen Sun Farm. In addition, ETMall members and Eastern E-Commerce distributors will be invited to join the cause. At the same time, the “Plant Tress & Cut Carbon Emissions Public Welfare Program” that Eastern Group continues to push forward will also expand island-wide. We expect to sponsor and adopt 9.3 hectares of land in eight forest stations in Luodong, Hsinchu, Dongshi, Nantou, Chiayi, Pingtung, Hualien, and Taitung, as we plan to plant trees. Initially, we plan to plant more than 15,000 saplings within three years. We care for our environment, and we love the Earth.
Environmental sustainability is a very important issue for Eastern Group. Eastern Media International Corporation and ETMall won the Gold Award in the trade and department store category of the “Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards” last year. Furthermore, Eastern Media International Corporation also won the Bronze Award at the inaugural “Taiwan Sustainability Action Awards” with its smart barns. Eastern Group has also set 2022 as the “first year of ESG sustainable development,” as it is a corporation’s due responsibility to fulfill its corporate social responsibility and actively implement measures to protect the environment.
“ESG plans are important goals for Eastern Group in 2022. Besides promoting the planting of more trees, we are also paying a great deal of attention to environmental protection internally, as evidenced by our usage of environment-friendly shopping bags at ETMall and the reduction in our carton usage; in addition, Eastern Natural Beauty also advocates bottle recycling. These efforts are all very important for environmental protection, as we try to add up every tiny bit of our endeavors,” said Liao Shang-Wen.
“Reducing the amount of plastic and reusing recycled resources” is also one way to protect the environment and love our Earth. All of the bottles and packing materials used by cosmetics brands at Eastern Natural Beauty under Eastern Group are made from recyclable environment-friendly materials. We also encourage consumers to work with us to recycle empty bottles in exchange for rewards and discounts. In addition, ETMall has planned and rolled out “circular packing bags,” encouraging consumers to cut down on plastics and love the Earth.
New Taipei City is pushing forward the “New Taipei City Mountain Sea Forestation Plan.” Under this initiative, 40,000 tress and 200 corals are expected to be planted and restored respectively every year, contributing to a reduction in carbon emissions of 40 metric tons each year. The plan also calls on private organizations to respond and pitch in, encouraging them to provide appropriate venues, saplings, maintenance staff or arbor funds. The New Taipei City Government is responsible for integrating the demands and resources from various organizations to match cooperation between the public and private sectors in an attempt to maximize the plan’s benefits. Let us love and protect the land beneath us and do our part to love and protect the Earth.
