ETMall, a subsidiary of Eastern Media International Corporation (2614), announced today (29th) that it will distribute a cash dividend of NT$5 per share in the second quarter. ETMall’s consolidated revenue for the first half of 2021 (including Strawberrynet and Mama Bear Shopping) reached NT$13.83 billion, showing an annual growth rate of 21.1%, with accumulated profits of NT$860 million and earnings per share (EPS) of NT$8.44 for the first half of the year, which represents a substantial increase of 47% from last year. This performance has made ETMall the second most profitable e-commerce company in Taiwan in the first half of the year. Since the third quarter of 2019, ETMall has paid quarterly dividends. This year, after the cash dividend of NT$3 per share in the first quarter, it is expected to distribute cash dividends of NT$5 per share in the second quarter, which exceeds TSMC’s dividend of NT$2.75 in the first quarter. It also means that the company has strong competitiveness and relatively sound financial capabilities.
In June, the consolidated revenue of ETMall reached NT$2.39 billion, showing an annual growth rate of 22%, and profits of NT$176 million, with an annual growth rate of 55%. The performance of ETMall in June and the first half of the year both reached record highs. As the country remains in Epidemic Alert Level 3, the stay-at-home economy has soared and the public’s demand for online shopping has increased significantly. ETMall’s online revenue in June was NT$980 million, with an annual increase of 76%, and a cumulative revenue from January to June of NT$4.9 billion, with an annual increase of 55%.
Benefitting from the booming stay-at-home economy, both Strawberrynet and Mama Bear Shopping, which were acquired in 2018 and 2020 respectively by ETMall, are experiencing significant growth in sales. Strawberrynet’s revenue in the first half of the year reached 480 million (HK$), with an annual growth rate of 42%. Due to pandemic prevention measures, consumers are spending long periods of time at home, which has resulted in a surging demand for online shopping of fruits, vegetables, fish and meat products. Mama Bear Shopping also saw 23% growth in June compared to May, with an annual growth rate of 90%.
Fresh fruits and vegetables are the focus of Mama Bear Shopping, a fresh produce e-commerce company under ETMall, and orders for fresh fruits and vegetables have skyrocketed since the outbreak of the pandemic, resulting in significant growth in May and June. Currently, 300,000 members have been accumulated in the Taipei and New Taipei region, and consumer demand is under observation. In June, the top 5 products on Mama Bear Shopping site showed that vegetables still remained in top spot, followed by Dacheng Wuhejia Washed Eggs, Irwin mangoes, thick-cut salmon fillets, and “Safe and Fresh Vegetable Boxes” delivered directly from the place of origin are all popular items. To satisfy consumers’ demand for ready-to-eat food, Mama Bear Shopping has recently launched a variety of new products, the first of which is the “Eastern Farm Cooking Kit” jointly launched with “CooKing.” A total of 250,000 sets of cooking kits have been sold in just two months and this product has been ranked No. 5 on the “ETMall Top 10 Best Selling Food Products” in the first half of this year. Other new products include California cherries, Yayan Luxury Barbecue Set, and local Asian pears. In addition, Mama Bear Shopping have partnered with five-star restaurants to offer specialty dishes, including Silks Hotel, Ginza Anzu Tonkatsu, and Duan Chun Zhen Beef Noodle. In the future, more popular restaurant products will be introduced, including Shin Yeh Restaurant’s Shin Yeh Fermented Tofu and featured dishes from the Regent Taipei.
In the first half of this year, the e-commerce business has risen against the trend, from the Lunar New Year’s Holiday, Women’s Day in March, to the 618 Mid-Year Festival.
