he red-fleshed sweet potatoes from Jinshan, New Taipei City, are very famous, and are now in season. New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-Ih has once again joined the EETV shopping channel “Eastern Farm” today (9/1) as a shopping expert to promote fresh local agricultural produce. He was here to assist young farmers from Jinshan to promote the fruit of their hard work: “Jinshan No.66 Organic Red Sweet Potatoes.” With his promotion experience from the previous appearance, as well as the excellent results and positive feedback received, Mayor Hou said with a smile, “I feel more relaxed and I’m sure that we will do even better this time with ETMall’s support.” President Gary Wang of Eastern Group also offered his support to small farmers by giving out an additional 50% ET coin reward. The 600 sets of sweet potatoes sold out within moments as soon as the sale opened.
The first time Mayor Hou appeared on “Eastern Farm” last September in support of young farmers, he sold out all 500 sets of produce within moments, and this excellent achievement has given him confidence in his promotion skills. In particular, he grew up eating sweet potatoes, and thus feels a special connection with this root vegetable. Mayor Hou not only looked much more relaxed the second time on the program, he also revealed a rare playful side when he took cute photos together with the sweet potatoes. “I’m quite happy to join the program again and help out the young farmers and sweet potatoes.”
The red-fleshed sweet potatoes recommended by Mayor Hou are especially firm and starchy in texture due to the unique climate of Jinshan. The planting site is close to the north coast by Datun Mountain, which is irrigated by the springs of the Yangmingshan mountain range, and full of mineral-rich volcanic black soil. The year-round sea breeze, large day-night temperature difference, saline soil, and excellent drainage are some of the unique geographic conditions that have resulted in the starchy and fragrant sweet potatoes with a very high sugar content that taste different from those produced in southern Taiwan.
Green bamboo shoots, sweet potatoes, and yam make up the three “healthy treasures” of New Taipei City. In particular, sweet potatoes were a staple food for the Taiwanese people in the old days. In recent times, due to the trend in healthy eating, sweet potatoes have once again regained their popularity as they are a low-GI food rich in healthy starch. Sweet potatoes also contain abundant vitamins C and E, as well as a lot of carotene and dietary fiber, making it an excellent natural and high-quality ingredient. The organic Jinshan No.66 red sweet potatoes from Jinshan are grown using organic farming methods, where weeds cannot be removed by using herbicides or other chemicals during the cultivation process. The organic No.66 red sweet potatoes sold by EHS Select this time were all freshly harvested. Each box weighs 6 kg and contains 20-40 sweet potatoes, at a price of only NT$750 and a 50% ET coin reward. After placing an order, the sweet potatoes will be delivered directly from the place of produce, so consumers can rest assured that they are enjoying the freshest in-season sweet potatoes. With the Mid-Autumn Festival around the corner, grilled sweet potatoes are also a great addition to a BBQ with family and friends.
ETMall has long-supported local small farmers and outstanding agricultural produce. Hou Yu-Ih specially awarded a certificate during the program to thank Gary Wang and his team for supporting Taiwan’s agricultural sector through concrete actions and assisting to expand sales channels. Hou Yu-Ih mentioned, “ETMall not only offers support to agricultural produce by providing a window of exposure and an excellent reputation, most importantly, they also actively participate in public welfare activities to help the disadvantaged, this is what touched me the most. They sell farm produce and also care about the community. They help hardworking farmers and encourage them to create even better sales.”
ETMall is committed to standing together with small farmers. Having experienced the impact of the pandemic on local communities, we were the first to join the national agricultural and fishery products marketing team. With our support, we sold 1,600 Chiayi Aurora muskmelons, 3,500 sets of Taitung atemoya, and 16,000 Tainan Matou Wendan pomelos in seconds, and sold 4,000 sets of Tainan Guanmiao pineapples, achieving brilliant sales performances each time. We not only uphold the spirit of EHS Select to select the best produce, but also help farmers with domestic sales. In addition, all of the agricultural produce sold on Eastern Farm are also available on the Mama Bear Shopping platform. ETMall will remain committed to the spirit of EHS Select and continue to search for high quality produce around Taiwan. At the same time, we also hope to lead by example, so that all sectors can support Taiwan’s local agriculture together.
