Ying Shao-Wei Giving Kindness at Year-End! Gary Wang Donated NT$600,000 for a Turkey Feast Ko Wen-Je Helping the Disadvantaged

The end of the year is the season to give love and kindness to others. Eastern Commerce Company (Eckare) and Taipei City Councilor Ying Shao-Wei joined hands to hold a public welfare event at the Rixiang Community Activity Center in Wanhua District today (1/23) to provide food and clothes for free to disadvantaged groups. Eckare donated 150 sets of turkey dinners. Each turkey was locally reared and weighed 5 kilograms, totaling a market value of approx. NT$600,000. The staff and students of Juang Jing Vocational High School’s catering department cut and prepared the turkeys into nearly 2,000 delicious meal boxes. In addition to the turkeys, Ying Shao-Wei’s mother also paid hundreds of thousands of dollars out of her own pocket to purchase 3,000 sets of thermal clothing, keeping disadvantaged people’s bodies and hearts warm during the cold winter days. Ko Wen-Je, Taipei City Mayor; Tsai Ping-Kun and Huang Shan-Shan, Taipei City Deputy Mayors; and Gary Wang, Chairman of Eckare, all attended the event and enthusiastically responded to the end-of-the-year public welfare activities.

Gary Wang, Chairman of Eckare, said that Eastern not only cares about business, but is also deeply committed to public welfare, and thanked Taipei City Councilor, Ying Shao-Wei, for organizing the year-end charity campaign every year. Taiwanese farmers are still suffering from the impact of the pandemic since 2020, as a sales platform, Eckare should strive to help the farmers. Therefore, we provided large Taiwanese farm-reared specialty turkeys for this year’s activity, each weighing 5 kg, hoping to help not only those in need, but also the farmers. Gary Wang hopes to have the honor of participating in such a meaningful event every year in the future, and is certain that despite the ongoing pandemic, Taipei City will be able to pass through this hard time safely under the leadership of Mayor Ko and the efforts of the city government team.

On the morning of the event, many people arrived wearing masks and holding documents of proof to receive the turkey meal boxes and thermal clothing. Ying Shao-Wei handed out these gifts in person, and during this time, she kept asking people how they were doing and helped them pick out their clothing sizes. There were even some people who asked to take photos together, making a very heartwarming scene. Ying Shao-Wei expressed her gratitude to the generous donation of the turkey dinner by Eckare, which enabled the year-end charity event to be carried out smoothly. She also thanked the hundreds of teachers and students of Juang Jing Vocational High School who started the hard work of processing the ingredients three days in advance in order to provide clean and hygienic meal boxes. Ying Shao-Wei also mentioned that her mother always donates to public welfare out of her own pocket every year. This year, she had decided to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to buy 3,000 sets of thermal clothing to help disadvantaged people stay warm through winter.

Mayor Ko Wen-Je and Deputy Mayors Tsai Ping-Kun and Huang Shan-Shan of Taipei City also attended the event to witness the heartwarming and caring actions of society. In his speech, Mayor Ko expressed his gratitude on behalf of Taipei City Government to Ying Shao-Wei for organizing public welfare activities every year. He also wanted to thank Eckare for donating the turkeys, the teachers and students of Juang Jing Vocational High School for preparing and packing the food into boxes, and finally the community leaders for distributing the meals, so that the good deeds could be completed. Everyone’s participation contributed to this event’s success. Deputy Mayor Tsai Ping-Kun said that the turkey meal boxes not only met the pandemic prevention standards, but also let the disadvantaged groups bring love and kindness home, which is particularly meaningful. In addition, he also encouraged more private enterprises to participate in public welfare with enthusiasm just like Eckare and to be a good CSR example. We should all support social welfare organizations and care for the local community to achieve a friendly Taipei City.

In order to comply with national pandemic prevention measures and prevent the risk of clustering, the “Year-End Charity Event” organized by Taipei City Councilor Ying Shao-Wei on 1/23 was held in different areas and time periods in Wanhua District. Members of the public were required to wear a mask and to have their body temperature checked. They received a delicious turkey meal box and one set of thermal clothing to take home by presenting a low-income certificate.
