ETtoday is celebrating its 10th anniversary! Today (1st), Eastern Group President, Gary Wang, celebrated the 10th anniversary of ETtoday. He thanked all employees and awarded commemorative gold coins to those with 10 years of service. Television show host, singer, and actor Jacky Wu and “ETtoday Star” hosts Kid Lin and Han-Chun Wun (Qun) also attended the celebration.
Besides Eastern Group President, Gary Wang, ETtoday General Manager Mel Chen, ETtoday Chief-of-staff Guo-Jun Chen, Editor-in-chief Wen-Chun Lin, and Eckare Managing Sales CEO Shih-Chun Wang all made an appearance. Together, they pulled on a color ball to show the celebratory ribbon with the slogan: “Ten Years of Pride, The Best New Media,” officially kicking off the event.
“Jungle Voice” contestants Joe Cheng, Safe Liu, Si-Ling Chen, “CooKing” two-time champion Shou-Hong Chen, Monster Shou, Eva Gao, and “CooKing” head judge Fred all participated as well, adding to the festivities with music and food.
All employees with ten years of service in the company were personally given a commemorative 10-year anniversary gold coin by Gary Wang. In addition, government officials including President Tsai as well as celebrities, artists, and sports stars sent their regards through a celebratory short video, and wished Taiwan’s leading online media happy anniversary.
Since ETtoday’s founding ten years ago, it has rapidly expanded to become the online news media platform with the highest traffic in Taiwan. Since 2011, the site’s average daily traffic has soared from 370,000 to 18.5 million, a 5,000% increase in traffic within ten years. ETtoday was also one of the first media platforms to develop a community with a total number of fans now exceeding 20 million.
Gary Wang expressed his gratitude for the efforts of his team and the support of readers which have helped ETtoday achieve so much in just ten years. He said that media operates with two goals in mind, influence and profit. ETtoday rose to 10 million visitors in just three years and surpassed Apple Daily in advertising revenue in 2018 and traffic in 2019. ETtoday is now the leader in both traffic and revenue!
In the past ten years, ETtoday has achieved a lot, including: ETtoday now has an average web traffic of 18.5 million visitors, more than 20 million fans, and the highest media exposure in the industry. For four consecutive years, ETtoday was recognized by Oxford University as the largest and most trusted new media in Taiwan. ETtoday was the winner of the Google Innovation of the Year Award, Best in Show Award, and Foresight Innovation Award. ETtoday is the first new media company to win the first prize in the National Brand Yushan Awards, winning four awards (first prize for Outstanding Enterprise and Outstanding Popular Brand, Outstanding Enterprise Award, and Outstanding Popular Brand Award). ETtoday has the highest online ad revenue. It owns several offline media brands including advertisement for: Taiwan High Speed Railway, Taipei MRT, bus ads, and street furniture ads as well as advertisement in stairwells and elevators (Focus Media). ETtoday is the creator of a new virtual-physical business model, ETtoday Pets.
In 2018, ETtoday debuted the original signing talent show “Jungle Voice.” The show received the Best Variety Programme Award in the Golden Bell Awards. In 2020, ETtoday created the cooking talent show “CooKing,” which created revenue for show contestants through the sales of co-branded peripheral products. Eastern Group is the first company in Taiwan to work with talent show contestants to promote IP productization and create a stage for young people and generate income. Throughout 2020, ETtoday continued to innovate its content by releasing new products, such as ETtoday Podcast, to keep in touch with the media consumption habits of the new generation.
