ETMall also reported a record high performance for June and the first half of the year over the same period. As the country remained under nationwide Epidemic Alert Level 3, the stay-at-home economy has been booming; in addition, the public’s demand for online shopping has increased significantly. ETMall reported a revenue of NT$980 million for June, showing an annual growth rate of 76%, a cumulative January-June revenue of NT$4.9 billion, and an annual growth rate of 55%. Mama Bear Shopping, a subsidiary of ETMall, also benefited from the demand for fresh produce, fish and meat products during the pandemic prevention period. Its sales grew 23% from May, with an annual growth rate of 90%.
In the first half of this year, the e-commerce business has risen against the trend, from the Lunar New Year’s Holiday, Women’s Day in March, to the 618 Mid-Year Festival. In May and June, the stay-at-home economy flourished. In the first half of this year, the overall number of members spending on ETMall grew by 13%. Moreover, the average amount spent by members was NT$4,728, showing an annual growth of 39%. The purchasing power for online shopping has increased greatly, with 36% of loyal members spending an average of more than NT$20,000 per month.
Fresh fruits and vegetables are the focus of Mama Bear Shopping, a fresh produce e-commerce company under ETMall. Orders for fresh fruits and vegetables have skyrocketed since the outbreak of the pandemic, resulting in a significant growth in May and June. Currently, there are 300,000 members in the Taipei and New Taipei region, and consumer demand is under observation. In June, the top 5 products on the Mama Bear Shopping site showed that vegetables still remained in the top spot, followed by popular items including Dacheng Wuhejia Washed Eggs, Irwin mangoes, thick-cut salmon fillets, and “Safe and Fresh Vegetable Boxes” delivered directly from the place of production. To satisfy consumers’ demand for ready-to-eat food, Mama Bear Shopping has recently launched a variety of new products, the first of which is the “Eastern Farm Cooking Kit” jointly launched with “CooKing.” A total of 250,000 sets of cooking kits have been sold in just two months; in addition, this product ranked No. 5 on the “ETMall Top 10 Best Selling Food Products” in the first half of this year. Other new products include California cherries, Yayan Luxury Barbecue Set, and local water pears. In addition, Mama Bear Shopping partnered with five-star restaurants, including the Regent Taipei, Tonkatsu Anzu Ginza, and Duan Chun Zhen Beef Noodle to offer specialty dishes. In the future, more popular restaurant products will be introduced, including Shin Yeh Restaurant’s Shin Yeh Fermented Tofu and featured dishes from the Regent Taipei.

In addition to providing consumers with the highest quality services, under the leadership of President Gary Wang of Eastern Group, ETMall has also been involved in public welfare activities for years. Seeing the severe impact of the pandemic in Taiwan, the company not only took the lead and donated NT$10 million to Taipei City and New Taipei City for their pandemic prevention efforts, as well as protective gear to the Tri-Service General Hospital, but even extended their care to the senior citizens by donating air coolers and tents so that the elderly waiting to be vaccinated would not have to wait in the sun. Recently, Eastern Commerce Company (Eckare) donated “pandemic prevention satellite wards” and “modular negative pressure isolation rooms” to the value of NT$4 million to the Zhongxiao and Zhongxing branches of the Taipei City Hospital. Gary Wang said, “I felt very sad seeing the exhausted healthcare personnel working in the negative pressure wards.” Eastern is committed to fulfilling our “corporate social responsibility” and to safeguard our homeland together with the people of Taiwan. We look forward to overcoming the pandemic soon and the nation returning to good health.
