The cold and wet winter has led to a sharp drop in blood donations this year. Eastern Group has long been dedicated to public welfare and providing care to disadvantaged groups. After ETtoday, a subsidiary of Eastern Group, held a blood donation drive in Nangang last month, Eastern Direct Selling e-Commerce Platform has also called on its employees to hold a blood donation drive – “Eastern Gives Blood to Show Love”, at its headquarters in Zhonghe on the 21st of this month. In addition to the executives and employees who enthusiastically rolled up their sleeves to help out, the neighborhood also responded warmly, and a total of 140 bags of blood were donated. Chairman Gary Wang of Eastern Direct Selling e-Commerce Platform said, Eastern will continue to donate blood to help those in need, and he hopes to lead by example and inspire all sectors to also donate blood and end the blood shortage.
According to statistics from the Taiwan Blood Services Foundation last week, as of January 16th, the average blood stocks of the five blood donation centers in Taipei, Hsinchu, Taichung, Tainan, and Kaohsiung are all in short supply, and after taking inventory, the shortage of blood in Kaohsiung was the most severe, with only 3.9 days left in stock. Additionally, there was an acute shortage of all blood types, with only 4 days of supply left in Taipei, Taichung, and Tainan. The whole of Taiwan is suffering from a blood shortage, causing great concern in the medical sector, and the National Taiwan University Hospital has even posted a rare announcement to reduce blood use in non-emergency situations, and called on the public to show their love and roll up their sleeves to donate blood.
Gary Wang said, “Eastern is not only about business, we are also about public welfare. We were so worried when we learned about the blood shortage last week. Eastern Direct Selling arranged for a blood donation truck to come to our headquarters in Zhonghe immediately on January 21, before the blood bank became depleted. We held a one-day event called ‘Eastern Gives Blood to Show Love’. To encourage people to donate blood, for every bag of blood donated, Eastern also gave away five “Eastern Natural Beauty NB Blue” medical grade masks, two packs of “Eastern Farm” dried fruits, and 300 ET coins.”
On the day of the blood drive, Eastern Direct Selling said that the blood donation truck was parked in the square in front of the company’s headquarters from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for a total of 6.5 hours. In addition to the company executives and employees, many community members and warmhearted passersby also participated in the drive. Apart from those who were not suitable to give blood, 100 people successfully donated blood, totaling 140 bags or 35,000 cc of blood. Eastern Direct Selling will continue to implement Gary Wang’s passion for public welfare. As long as society is in need, we will send our love to every corner.
