The “Breakfasts Made of Love” initiative by Eastern Charity Foundation has now entered its 14th year, and has accompanied children in the remote rural communities of Daxi District, Taoyuan, Fuli Township, Hualien, and Jhuci Township, Chiayi. President Gary Wang of the Eastern Group has long been involved in public welfare activities to provide love and care, as a result, he is also known to the children in these rural communities as “Papa Eastern”. Today (6/16), President Gary Wang, along with father and daughter spokespersons Jacky Wu and Sandy Wu, went to Dongzhu Elementary School in Fuli, Hualien to make the “Breakfasts Made of Love” for the children from the Hakka communities, warming the children’s hearts with a delicious meal and beautiful singing. Eastern continues to show its love by helping those in need, sparing no effort to care for the community. On the same day, President Gary Wang also donated NT$300,000 to the Fuli Township Indigenous Women’s Social Welfare Organization and provided extra food to the senior Indigenous community members’ Dragon Boat Festival celebration. Eastern provides help to those in need through practical actions. President Gary Wang said: Eastern has been promoting the “Breakfasts Made of Love” program for many years and has received widespread positive response from the public. Eastern will continue to call on its members to continue to show their love and help the children in Taiwan’s rural areas, sending their love and care to every corner of the country.
Dongzhu Elementary School is located in Fuli Township, Hualien County, where many of the children come from disadvantaged families, and their parents are unable to see to the children’s breakfast due to busy farm work. In response to this, Eastern’s “Breakfasts Made of Love” program has been sponsoring the disadvantaged children for eight consecutive years, caring for them by providing both meals and love. Eastern Group has continued to send their love to the schools around Hualien, and the Breakfasts Made of Love program has been well-received. Gary Wang, or “Papa Eastern, said that Eastern has always been dedicated to public welfare, and is especially concerned about disadvantaged children. When their needs and lack of daily necessities were noticed, Eastern showed its love by providing for them through practical actions. According to Chen Yan-Guang, principal of Dongzhu Elementary School, the children only started to receive enough food since the Breakfasts Made of Love sponsorship began, and they no longer needed to wait until lunchtime for the school lunch. The children very much treasure and appreciate this caring gesture.
Famous variety show host Jacky Wu and his daughter Sandy Wu are not only accomplished entertainers, but also active philanthropists. Last year, they took part in the Breakfasts Made of Love program and enjoyed a day of food and fun with the children of Baiji Elementary School in Daxi District, Taoyuan. Today, they accompanied President Gary Wang to Dongzhu Elementary School in Hualien to spend a day with the children. The three of them not only made breakfast for the children, but also sang songs that touched the hearts of the children and everyone had a wonderful time. Chen Yan-Guang, principal of Dongzhu Elementary School, expressed his gratitude to Eastern for providing the children with breakfast over the past eight years. Not only has the breakfasts filled the children’s stomach, it is also a blessing to the children that they will “grow up safe and healthy by eating breakfast”. The Breakfasts Made of Love program ensures that the children will have a full stomach when attending school so that they will have the physical strength to study hard. Children can feel the help provided by society through enjoying the Breakfasts Made of Love, and be more motivated to learn. Three of the children who grew up eating Breakfasts Made of Love were accepted to famous universities such as National Cheng Kung University and National Kaohsiung Normal University. The children’s positive learning attitude made President Gary Wang, who values “commitment and hardwork”, feel honored and touched. He awarded the children with a special scholarship of NT$6,000 to encourage them to continue to work hard and become good role models to the younger students.
In addition to “Breakfasts Made of Love”, which provides care to the disadvantaged children through nutritious breakfasts designed for children, Eastern does not single out particular groups or individuals when it comes to charity work, Eastern will provide love and care to all those in need wherever it is needed. This time, President Gary Wang helped several disadvantaged groups on his visit to Hualien. He hoped that through practical actions, he could lead by example and encourage others to care for those in need. Earlier this year, many long-term care facilities were severely impacted by the pandemic. When President Gary Wang of Eastern Group heard that the donations received by the Catholic Indigenous Family and Women’s Center in Hualien have shrunken considerably, he immediately announced a cash donation of NT$300,000 to help the Center through this difficult time of the pandemic. In addition, President Gary Wang also provided more heartwarming gifts in the form of tasty dishes to the “A-Yi Abalone Dragon Boat Festival Abalone Zongzi Feast” for elderly citizens living in poverty and illness, who belong the four development associations commissioned by the Council of Indigenous Peoples. We hope that we can lead by example through practical actions, so that the disadvantaged population can receive the care and attention they deserve. Sister Lee Hsiu-Hsia of the Indigenous Family and Women’s Center thanked the Eastern Group and President Gary Wang for their timely support. The Center and the tribal elders are very grateful for Eastern Group’s selfless dedication and the help provided.
Eastern Charity Foundation has long provided care to the remote rural and disadvantaged population and is committed to combining public service and philanthropy. The “Breakfasts Made of Love” and “Sending Love to Tribal Villages” programs help to care for children in need in the remote rural areas. The Foundation has made many trips to schools in remote areas to care for these disadvantaged children. The “Breakfasts Made of Love” program is also the driving force behind the children’s improved learning abilities. Over the past 14 years, it has continued to care for children in the remote rural areas of Taiwan, ensuring that they can enjoy a hot breakfast at school every day, so that they do not have to attend class hungry. Eastern Group will continue to call on its members to send their love to every corner of the country through practical actions, and use these practical actions to ensure that help can go beyond regional boundaries. Let us show our love by caring for the disadvantaged and help those in need with our actions.
