ETtoday’s Eighth Birthday Gary Wang: We Will Continue to Lead Taiwan’s Media

ETtoday has turned eight! To celebrate the eighth anniversary of ETtoday, a birthday party and Jungle Voice dress-up party was held today (30th). Gary Wang, President of Eastern Group, wore a lion mask to symbolize the pride in leading the industry. It was to serve as an announcement that the Group will continue to invest in “Jungle Voice” and improve the quality of Taiwanese variety shows, as well as proactively operate online and offline integrated services. ETtoday will not only continue to lead Taiwan ’s media in the future, it will also evolve to become a smart consumer content e-commerce platform.

Since its establishment in 2011, ETtoday has set a new milestone every year. In addition to having an average daily traffic volume of more than 15 million; rising to first place in Taiwan ’s digital media. Its self-produced show “Jungle Voice” has won the “Best Variety Program” category in the 54th Golden Bell Awards, becoming the first new media to ring the “Golden Bell” in Taiwan.

Gary Wang said that “boldness, innovation, and sharing” are the business philosophies of Eastern. The vast, new frontier of ETtoday is to turn “traffic” into an asset through innovative ways. In the past, traditional media mainly relied on advertising, but Eastern is actively seeking out new business models to transform content into programs and variety shows, as well as commercialize content to create new revenue. Two of the most successful examples this year are “Jungle Voice” and the “ETtoday Pets” brick-and-mortar stores. “Jungle Voice” offers young people with dreams the opportunity to go on stage, while creating high traffic volume for ETtoday and giving rise to more stars in the Chinese-speaking world. The ETtoday Pets store, which opened just last year, is expected to break through the one hundred store-mark by the end of this year and become the number one chain pet store in Taiwan. The next step is to become the number one pet brand for consumers.

In order to implement the spirit of innovation and sharing, “Her” – a platform for women, was officially launched this year. It shows that ETtoday has moved from being an information provider into the field of “content e-commerce” to satisfy readers who are followers of beauty and fashion. When they are reading the news and researching new information on beauty and cosmetics, they would also be able to purchase high-quality products quickly and conveniently. At the same time, ETtoday has also taken up more than 80% of the Taipei MRT advertising space this year. It is expected that more visual creativity and interactive devices will be introduced in 2020. Refined and vivid advertising content will be used so that MRT stations will become new check-in hotspots for the public, bringing forth a totally different public transport culture and experience.

ETtoday’s eighth anniversary celebration is based on the concept of “Jungle Voice” and ETtoday Pets, where company employees were invited to dress up as different animals. Special guests invited to take part in the birthday celebration also included Joe Cheng, Yvonne Hsu, and Eva Lin from season one, as well as the most popular contestants from season two, including IVAN, Vicky Chen, George Wu, Onion Chen, James Lu, Safe Liu, Chen Si-ling, Wang I-cheng, Ozzy Lyu, Li Yan, Eric Tsao, Soaér, and Verna Tzeng. ETtoday Pets store also brought eight celebrity dogs to join the dress-up party lineup. The puppies were dressed up as different animals, such as lions and lobsters, which made them look extremely funny but also super adorable!
